Ain't nothin' gonna break my stride...

So Sunday I ran my first 5k, a whole two weeks earlier than I originally planned (or trained for). One of my coworkers asked me about joining the The CIBC Run for the Cure with some other teachers -- geez, you coach the cross country team for a few years and start a running club and suddenly everyone thinks you're a runner.

Anyway, my favourite part of the run was discovering just how many pink things people are willing to clothe themselves in: I saw pink wigs, pink leis, pink boas, pink ties (and as I write that I realize that there was an opportunity missed!), pink shirts, pink bras (on the outside, naturally), and a pink superhero. I also liked the guy who wrote that he was running for "Boobs everywhere: I love them!"

Now, I had been training fairly diligently up until two weeks ago, when I stopped training quite so diligently. In fact, the most training I have
done lately was carb-loading (in the shape of a huge spaghetti dinner) Saturday night. However, I ran the whole way without throwing up, thus succeeding in my main goal. Also, I ran it in 25-26 minutes. I think. It's hard to tell because we were at the back of the chute at the start and I don't know exactly how long it took to get to the actual starting line. The timer read 27:37 or something like that at the end. But we're going with 25-26 minutes because that time seems to impress everyone.

Edited to add: I forgot to say that as I passed the 4 km mark, my mp3 player started playing "(I Would Walk) 500 Miles" by the Proclaimers and as I crossed the finish line, I heard "Hey now/ You're an all-star/ Get your game on/ Go play..." from "All Star" by Smash Mouth.  I love musical serendipity.

Further edited to add: Thank you to everyone who donated to the cause. You are all pretty and witty and wise.

The ZooRun is in 1 1/2 weeks. I'd like to actually do a bit more training before then. I should be working on improving my speed with tempo and speed runs. The goal is still to run the whole way without throwing up, but I'd like to do it faster. Because that way? I stop running earlier. *taps forehead* That's thinkin', right there.

Apropos of pretty much nothing else, I have uploaded about half of my Provence pictures. Those have been done since August, and I decided to not wait until I got around to writing up the captions for the rest of that part of the trip. Here they are:
Provence 2010

My ever-changing goal for the trip pictures is to finish them by the end of this year. I haven't decided if I mean calendar or school year yet.
