In which PhysicsGirl finally sews a Marfy blouse

Behold, I have finally officially taken part in a sewalong. On time and everything. What's more, I finally sewed up the red and white Marfy blouse I've been planning since last summer. No doubt I shall make up for it by posting this in a timey-wimey fashion.

I followed the instructions from the Marfy 1913 sewalong at A Challenging Sew (note that part 2b, which deals with adding sleeves, and part 6, which is about hems and closures, are tagged separately). The sew-along is particularly helpful because the Marfy instructions are minimal. And by minimal I mean practically non-existent.

As recommended, I made a muslin. This is unlike me and might have meant that I was turning a corner, sewing-wise, were it not that I made said muslin two years ago. At the time, it didn't look like I needed to make any adjustments, and frankly my body hasn't changed much, so... there should have been no problems, right?

Am I the only one who thinks that images of Saturn look completely unreal? I think it's the rings. They are so beautifully flat from far away.

I did not crochet a planet. I did crochet the Saturn sweater from Interweave Crochet Fall 2012. It's size 32 in Gloss DK from KnitPicks.com, a merino/silk blend that was on sale at the beginning of January. January 2013, that is.

Wrapped in flannel sheets

Happy perihelion, everybody! I actually sewed something. My first make of 2015 is a pair of Sewaholic Tofinos, made with a formerly-white ecru-but-now-tea-stained fitted flannel sheet that had developed a crazy big hole in the middle.



Now, wait, I hear you say. You're not supposed to be sewing anything new until you clear the bookcase of shame! Does that mean you've done it? Good for you!

Pancake of the Month: Strawberry and champagne

The DC had to work New Year's Day, and I thought it would be nice to send him off with pancakes. What better way to use up leftover NYE champagne (or strictly speaking, sparkling wine) than this recipe from Veggie and the Beast. If you have leftover champagne. I had to hoard it carefully or it might have disappeared, but we had just enough this morning for this recipe and two mimosas made from freshly squeezed OJ. Yes, this morning. Sadly, I overslept yesterday and the DC was left pancakeless. He forgave me this morning.
