Posted very timey-wimey more than a year later.

It's the first days of the new year, so we went to the last day of the last days of Pompeii exhibit at the ROM. Seemed fitting. I wore my first make of the new year: a tan denim Lekala spiral gore skirt. It's the second time I've made this skirt: scroll down to see more details but the tl;dr version is that... I like it, but it's too big in the waist. Again.
Ugh.
About the exhibit: I highly, strongly, really, really recommend printing your tickets at home for these things. By the time we got to the museum, the ticket line was out the door and around the block. We waltzed past them like royalty... right into the hoards who were already in the exhibit. Also? Go early.*

The exhibit was kind of a slice of daily life since the town was frozen in time, as it were. The casts at the end were moving.

We also found out how baby satyrs are made. You're welcome for the lack of picture there; once seen, cannot be unseen.

So, the skirt. It's the second time I've made the free made-to-measure pattern from Lekala. I notice they have changed the instructions now say that they include 1 cm seam allowance in the pattern. I don't know if the waist fits any better than when I downloaded it before. Because the waist was so huge on my last version, I tried to adjust it by subtracting 2" from the pattern and using a curve to even it out. However, I messed up by re-adding .5" for seam allowance... and the waist is, you guessed it, still too big.
Oh, and I nearly forgot to make sure the pattern and fabric were in the same direction -- no folding the fabric and cutting! I wrote it on the pattern piece to remind myself next time.

I used some of my vast quantities of topstitching thread (I will make that second and third pair of jeans, honest!) to finish the inside. I've found that I can get a faux-serged edge that looks pretty good on stiff cotton.

The fabric I used is a stretch tan denim from Textiles on King. I had originally thought to use the lighter wrong side, but there is some kind of sizing on the right side which would have been unpleasant against my skin, so I decided to just go with the not as pretty colour on the outside. I hope a few washes will mellow it. It's really stiff, too, which makes it stick out a lot. Nifty.

What this skirt is missing are pockets. I'm not really sure whether to put back patch pockets on (which would break up the clean lines) or to figure out an inseam pocket.
* The ticket taker thought it was hilarious that I reuse paper for tickets; I hope he enjoyed reading my lab rubrics because they're thrilling.
