I have been far too lazy so far this summer. This is good in some ways, because I've gotten a fair amount of reading done, but I have Plans and Things that need to get Done. In particular, I've been sitting on a bunch of sewing projects and that sweater that Lucy fricasseed the pattern for. Experience has shown that I kind of need a challenge, preferably with prizes, to get me motivated.
All Style and All Substance was celebrating her third blog anniversary and mentioned her Seven Week Challenge, which got me thinking. And plotting. And planning, which is the same as plotting only less ominous-sounding.
Anyway, so I'm doing my ownseven six week challenge. Except it's going to be a 9 in 6, because I have a few smaller projects to be squeezed in every now and then and I'd like to have one completed sewing project for every week of summer. I'm listing them here with planned deadlines so I can held accountable. Not that that's really worked before, because apparently I have very little shame and don't like being bullied. Especially by myself.
Maybe it'll work this time.
I have a horrible feeling that I have once again completely underestimated how long it will take to complete some of these, but we'll see. When school starts again, I'll slow down a bit. Fine. A lot. I do have a couple more dresses planned, but they will take me more than a week to bang out.
Wish me luck, and keep me on track! *I seem to have developed a thing for polka dots. Weird.

- First up, because I need to get these finished before I start on anything else, are my Thurlow trousers. They were almost done in June before exams started, but then I ran into fitting issues and put them aside because I couldn't deal with them . Plus I had to mark stuff. Then inertia took over. Due: July 23
- The Bombshell swimsuit, which I have to have finished before the August long weekend so I can take it to Lindystock. Plus, I've agreed to hassle Gillian from Crafting a Rainbow about getting hers done, and she will hassle me right back. Although we might both be too Canadian to do that properly. Due: July 28

- This is a small project. I hope to have the swimsuit finished before I do it, but hell or
high water(maybe I shouldn't say that, given the flooding we had a few weeks ago) I will turn my Math Cheat shirt into a tank on July 27.

- A Colette Macaron dress made out of some fabric I bought in London last year for no good reason. I'm planning on doing the yoke and waist in the same fabric, only bias cut, like this version. I'd like to get it done for July 31 when I take Aged P to see Anything Goes, but I'm not sure how realistic that will be. Due: Aug. 1

- Refashioning a dress I bought in Paris last summer. It should be easy, except it involves working with silk chiffon. Which terrifies me.

- Reworking the eyelet dress. I have to trim out the underarm seam bulk, because I was stupid and didn't do that to begin with, and I want to make it more bikeable. Items 5 and 6 are due: Aug. 9
- I bought this white pre-pleated fabric at the same time I bought the fabric for the white and the red polkadot dresses with the intention of making a pleated skirt. So that's what I'm going to do. Due: Aug. 18
- I am finally going to line the Easter parade dress. Due: Aug. 25
- I haven't blogged this yet, because I was waiting to figure out what I was going to do with it, but I won (yay me!) some delicious vintage fabric and buttons from So Zo', courtesy of The Polished Button. There's only a metre of it, so it took some thinking. I finally decided on a pencil skirt, probably from Simplicity 2451, although the DC is very keen on my drafting my own version. I just don't think PhysicsGirl's First Drafting Project would be doable in a week. Suggestions welcome. Due: Sept. 1

I do have a couple more dresses planned, but they will take me more than a week to bang out. - I'm going to make V8728 in a blue polka-dot* mystery fabric I bought at the closing sari store in May. I'd like to have it done for the Jazz Goes to the Movies dance at the Palais Royale September 12.
- I bought 4 yards of this gorgeous polka dot cotton-silk voile from Gertie's store a month or two ago and have finally decided to pair it with view 1 of this vintage Advance 6118 I got from Aged P's stash. It'll be an adventure, because I'm going to try Brooke's grading technique and actually make a muslin first. I'm planning to wear it to a wedding at the end of September.
Wish me luck, and keep me on track! *I seem to have developed a thing for polka dots. Weird.

Hassle. Hassle, Hassle hassle hassle! Make that bathing suit, lady!!!! ;)
ReplyDelete(Love your plans, btw!)
Back atcha. Fabric soaking as we speak.
DeleteI have a huge pile of fabric that is waiting to be formed into a million dresses. I should probably make a list like this! :) I can't wait to see them all, especially the swimsuit! :D
ReplyDeleteNeither can I! :) The list is very helpful. DOOOOO it! It's not like you have anything better to do, right? PhD? Pfft.
DeleteI started by finishing a dress that I began in 2010. I have two more cut out. My plan is one a month. Phd?! PFfffft, indeed! I created a blog to post my progress: andiedandy.blogspot.com
DeleteI love your blog! I think one item a month is very reasonable (considering my output so far is far less than that).
DeleteIt's so exciting to see you step up your sewing and set goals for yourself! I look forward to following your progress!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the inspiration! I wish I were better at sticking to deadlines and schedules, though. I'm a wee bit behind.
DeleteYou have such fun projects planned! My favorite fabric and pattern combo is the last one - Orange polka dots and a '50s style dress! Squee! And I'm extra excited to see how my ratio sizing works for you!
ReplyDeleteBest of luck with all the sewing!
Thanks. I'll let you know how the grading goes.
