In which PhysicsGirl manages to hide Green's Theorem

math cheat tank
I am happy to say that after a flurry of inactivity, I haven been slowly getting on with my 9-in-6 sewing challenge. I have missed every deadline so far. Of course I have. What was I expecting? Truth is, I have always sewed with a goal in mind: I need this item for that event, and I get it done. That's why the Bombshell swimsuit got finished, and that is how all the other ones will get done, too. But what event would necessitate a tank-top with upside-down equations on them?

The Tweed Ride has been postponed until the Spring, but some friends (the DC among them) thought it would be good to keep the spirit alive in the meantime by doing a smaller scavenger-hunt-type ride. I have been cozened, somehow, into helping organize it, and we had a meeting last night.* The very thing, I thought, to which to wear a tank top with not only the Cauchy-Schwartz inequality, but also the no doubt now-defunct phone number to Gino's pizza emblazoned across it.

I was really happy back in May when I reclaimed my M*A*T*H t-shirt and turned it into a tank top using So Zo's tutorial that I decided to reclaim another tee from university. Because apparently it was impossible that any mathie would want a small t-shirt.

Anyway, this is the Math Cheat Shirt. As you can see, it was really flattering before:
before
I cut a size 8 on the free pattern, which worked beautifully on the M*A*T*H tank. Alas, this tee was made of sterner stuff, because the knit doesn't have quite as much stretch. It's a bit snug. I had to futz about with the length because that print is big. But neither of these are huge issues, and I get to wear my fun tee again!

The M*A*T*H* tank was a bit too low cut, and this one is a bit too high. Eventually, I will find a happy medium. In the meantime, I'll add a bit more elastic to the straps.

A side-effect of it being so close-fitting is that several of the useful equations are blocked by... things when I look down. Oh well.
Green's theorem
Fun story: I did accidentally wear this shirt to an exam once. Fortunately, a) I had a sweater and b) it was a physics exam, so I did not put my stellar academic career in jeopardy.

*I'll post more details when we get them firmed up, but it looks like October 19 or 26th will be the dates to save. It's going to be a blast!

  1. Oh, I'm just loving this cute tank! Looks good on you and can be used to cheat on a test! Win-win.

    1. Thanks! I'm just now thinking that I could have used it on my 4th year PDEs exam; I could never keep the integrals that resulted in inverse trig functions straight, and they're on there.

I think I have enough scraps left over to make a pair of Zoƫ's pants, too.
