Summer wrap-up. Yes, you read that right.

No, I haven't adopted southern hemisphere timing. You may have noticed I never did a review of my extraordinarily ambitious summer sewing plans. Hem.

Abstract: I had 16 18 16 projects planned, along with umpteen UFOs PIPs UFOs* to finish, as well as a few pieces of jewellery I wanted to make. Long story short: I finished none of the UFOs or made any jewellery. I did finish 9 sewing projects, on deadline for the most part, with an additional 2 that have fallen into PIP territory, so that's not too bad. Here's the rundown:

  1. Various Belcarra blouses. Done. All four deadlines met, too.
Vertical stripes Belcarra="BlueHorizontal stripes BelcarraEyelet Oona Belcarra
I'm super pleased with most of my Belcarras, although I still have to redo the neckline of the horizontal one and put ribbons in them so I can tell back from front. I wore them for One Pattern, One Week. I'm fairly certain there will be more of these in my future.

  2. White linen Anna top. Done; deadline met.

I fixed the front pleats and zipper for Dîner en Blanc, and I've worn it a bunch. I'm still trying to decide if I should exchange the facings for simple neck binding. I'll see if I have enough linen left.

  3. Grey linen Thurlow shorts. DoneWearable. Deadline met.
    shorts/
These are strictly speaking UFOs since I plan to put the belt loops on One Day Soon. At this point I was on a roll with the sewing stuff: 5 items in 1 week. Not too shabby.

  4. Oonapalooza sheer sari maxi skirt: Done. On deadline.
    maxi/
It was way too cold to wear this outfit to the Toronto sewing meetup, but I did because I had been so dared. And I wound up wearing the skirt a lot throughout the rest of the summer. As loungewear, Oona-style. It's really too long for any shoes but the wedges, which is a bit of a shame.

  5. Blue & blue striped Alma: Firmly in progress.
    Alma/
And this is where all my good sewing intentions came to a screeching halt. I actually came close to finishing this on time, was really pleased with how I finished the neckline, and even wore it (unhemmed! scandalous!) to Monty Python, Live! as planned, but. It doesn't fit in the shoulders. I think I need to do a broad shoulder adjustment, which means I really need to make a muslin. Ugh. I think I have enough of this fabric left to cut another front and back, so I'm going to see if I can save this one by taking the sleeves off and finishing the armholes. Bagged.

  6. Cream and tan McCall's 8789 sheath: Started.

I basted the sides together to check the fit, but forgot that I had to piece together the pockets and my get-up-and-sew got up and went. Back in the bag. I wore my wavy Tiramisu to the ROM instead, because I needed to take pictures of it. Still have to blog that dress.

  7. Jalie jeans: Not done. Not even started, despite my attempt at scaffolding.

The jeans situation in this house is even more dire than before, so I really need to get cracking on this. Soon.

  8. Bronze knit SwoonPatterns scarf-neck cardigan: Done. Not by the August 1 deadline, but then we wound up not going to Montreal after all. I did get it done in time for Book of Mormon Sept 22. Which is still technically summer. Right?

Hello! I still need to hem this.

  9. White linen Gabriola: done. And on deadline, which was Dîner en Blanc**.
    Gabriola/
This year, they moved DeB to September, and it took me until the end of August to find matching linen for the side panels anyway, so I'm counting it as on deadline. (It would have been too cold for the crocheted shoes I had planned, anyway.) It's not the most practical garment, so I hope I get a bit more use out of it next summer.

  10. Polka dot Simplicty 2451: Not done, although I did take it out and thought about sewing it.
    Simplicity/
At this point in the summer, I was doing nothing but reading books and lazing, and I realized that what sewing mojo I had was hibernating. Then the sewcialists decided that January would be polka-dot month (although right now I seem to be the only one who remembers this), so I decided to put it on hold. But now I'm thinking I'll leave it for spring, since there's no way I will wear it until the temperature is in the double-digits. On the positive side.

  11. So, I redid the count and it looks like I actually had 18 projects planned, but maybe I didn't really count the basic white t-shirts since I didn't have the fabric yet. Not done during the summer, but I did buy some t-shirt fabric and have cut the Three Hours Past the End of the World tee pattern, so I hope to get this done by the end of February.

  12. Silk chiffon dress: not done. Again. Next year, I swear.
    chiffon/
I keep thinking I should just give it up, but then I think it would be a perfect hot weather dress once I get the fit right, so I persevere.

  13. Jeans from Jean-ius Craftsy course: Not done. Clearly. I think this was another project I didn't really count, so I don't feel too bad. But I really should watch at least one or two of the Craftsy courses I've bought.

  14. Marfy blouses: do you really need me to tell you?
    Marfy/
At this point, I had already decided to save them for January anyway. I did do a quick pin fit of the muslin version, so I've already cut out the red and white polka-dot silk version. I'm going to do all the stamping for Jungle January this year. For reals.
As for future sewing... well. I've been hanging my UFOs on the bookcase in the living room under the Out of sight, out of mind therefore In sight, you'll get around to finishing them thinking. Which hasn't worked. And the DC is getting super annoyed by it. He's made me promise not to sew anything new until I clear the bookcase. Which is fair. Most of that stuff just needs one or two little things done (like buttons and hooks) to be truly finished. Honestly, I was hoping to finish them by today so I could say I had completed everything by the end of 2014, but this couch is just so comfy.
bookcase of shame
I did get a special dispensation to make my white flannel sheet Tofinos (yay! Sewaholic finally released the pattern in pdf and she put it on sale and you bet I snapped that bad boy up immediately) and I have been crocheting a Rosemary sweater using some gorgeous wool, so those don't count. But once I've cleared the Bookcase of Shame... I have a bunch of PIPs that I should really finish. Rosemary
It will end, right?

* So, in my mind, an UnFinished Object is something I wear, even though it needs just a few more things done to make it truly complete. Like buttons. Buttons are the big one. These live on my bookcase so I don't forget about them. A PerpProject In Progress is something I've started (other than cutting out) but hasn't progressed to wearable yet. This is a bit different from what I said in October, but language is fluid, yo. Anyway, the PIPs live in plastic bags until such time as I can get to them.

**Which I will get around to blogging. Eventually. Lord, I still have to blog last year's DeB.

  1. Putting deadlines aside -- you got a lot of sewing done! I have the Belcarra pattern cut out and put together but have not cut my fabric. You Belcarras look amazing!

    1. I tend to only remember the stuff that didn't get done, so I agree that actually, yes, I did do quite a bit of sewing. The Belcarra is a nice pattern; I'm so pleased I bought it after all.
