Last night I went with my friend D to Dîner en Blanc, a top-secret (except for all the publicity about it ahead of time), impromptu (except for the weeks of planning and making of things that went into it) flash mob dinner, where 1400 of my closest friends dressed all in white descended on a secret location for an elegant dinner. And now you know the purpose of the white dress.

The top secret part was the location, which we didn't find out about until we were arriving at said location. So where was it? Fort York!
It was still drizzling when we arrived, plastic-clad, to set up and start eating, but the rain let up by the time we finished the soup course, so the rest of the evening was as lovely as I had anticipated.
Getting ready for the evening

Prepping for rain

Pack mule

Damp diners

Table setting

Waving the napkins to indicate we have officially occupied the space

Mmmm... food...

Menu

Mike Weir Rosé
Paté de Foie Gras* & Baguette
Sherried Mushroom Soup looks kind of disgusting, but is really, really tasty and the hot soup was really welcome at that point.
Chilled Poached Salmon with Lime Mayonnaise**
Balsamic-glazed Peaches, Arugula, & Chèvre Salad
Chocolate Pots de Crème was very, very rich. Next time I'll go for something more mousse-like.
Cheddar & Grapes
Fortnum & Mason Jubilee Blend Tea***

It was a really lovely evening, and I'm already making plans for next year!

*Lafitte, brought all the way from Paris. Which we wound up not eating because I didn't really want to deal with the can opener and an umbrella at the same time. Turns out we had plenty of food, so we didn't really miss it.
**From Ultimate Foods for Ultimate Health by Mairlyn Smith and Liz Pearson. Basically, the salmon is poached in orange juice and served cold with with mayonnaise mixed with lime juice.
***Brought all the way from London.
