The weather turned cold this week. I probably could have broken out my me-made sweaters, but they're already primed to be put away for the summer. This month has given me impetus to finally get around to a few slightly more extensive refashions that have been long-planned but languishing.

Home. "Light"
So, remember how I said that I didn't like the earrings I bought in Provence and that I would probably refashion them? Done. I've been thinking about making some bike-chain earrings for a while, and these are they. I re-used the sparkly post and pink stone dangler and the parts from 3 bike chain links. Unfortunately, when I soaked the inner parts in degreaser I left them in too long and the silver coating started peeling off. Although that might have been the vinegar I originally tried. Oh well, let's just call it patina and pretend like I meant to do that.

Also worn is a new (white nearly-too-sheer) Sorbetto and refashioned pyjama bottoms. And because they are just that comfy, my refashioned flip flops -- I really need to make a few more pairs. In the picture I'm busy sewing what I was planning on having finished so I could wear them today: Thurlow shorts.

Nathan Philips Square & City Hall. "I care about this..."
I'm wearing my blue Sunny scarf and earrings made in Canada but bought at the Kennedy Space Center in 2010. I spent part of the afternoon dropping things off the school roof to see if the eggs contained within would crack. Most of them didn't. A bunch of them did. Protip: A half-eaten jar of peanut butter will not protect a raw egg dropped from a great height.

Little India aka India Bazaar. "Change"
This shop had a lot of closing deals. Fabric for $5/yard. I may or may not have added to my fabric stash, although I have tentative plans for at least two of the fabrics. I'm wearing my white eyelet dress and shell drops from Athens. I'm still trying to decide whether I should take in the waist a bit more, but I definitely have to make the skirt more bike friendly. Stay tuned...

Home. "PJs"
It got very cold today: down to 4°C! Environment Canada (which is what I will continue to call it despite Harper's attempt to redefine science and everything associated with it) calls it an "abnormal weather trend." I had to go back on the roof this afternoon to drop more egg protectors. It was less fun than on Tuesday. It's going to stay cool for a while. I wish I had already finished that striped sweater you see in progress beside me.
Tonight we settled in to watch movies and so I'm wearing my green pjs that I took to Europe into 2010 and they got seriously scruffy, developing a huge hole in the rear. I sewed up the hole and turned them into possibly-too-short-shorts. The earrings are a bit of a cheat: I found those bubble shapes in a bead store and merely added French wires, so I technically made them.

Frankie Manning Tribute weekend, Dovercourt House. "GO"
This is a polyester peau-de-soie skirt from a formal dress I made back in university, so this is a refashion of a me-made -- two great tastes in one. I don't have a before picture of the dress, but it had a crushed blue velvet off-the-shoulder top with boning. 'Nuff said. Not only was it hand-made, but it was hand-sewn. I engineered a waistband out of folded 4" satin ribbon and some interfacing and this tutorial for guidance -- and I messed up, because the waistband is much too big. Sigh. Unpick, unpick, unpick. Someday. I wore red jasper earrings I bought in Jeckyll Island to school, so I feel okay about wearing these studs for dancing.

FTW, Dovercourt House. "Us"I dropped the ball on May the fourth, picture-wise, so no way I'm missing out on Towel Day. I'm wearing my red & white polkadot Simplicity 6582 with me-made crinoline, a me-made flower fascinator, and a new me-made red belt! The earrings are the pearl and marcasite drops I bought in London last July.

Brunch at the Gladstone. "Fave thing to do on a Sunday"The Sunday afternoon dance of a dance weekend is always my favourite; the vibe is really mellow. This is a frosh shirt from U(W) Math and it came in one-size-fits-too-big. I resolved to not lose it anymore to my men-friends and used Zoe's tutorial and tank pattern to reclaim it. I got lots of compliments on it today. My earrings are guitars that I bought in Nashville in the three or so hours I spent there about 15 years ago.
I realize you can't actually see the tank in this shot, so since I'm really pleased with how this came out, I'll give you the before and after below.

Geeky stats:
