Warmer... warmer... oops! colder... warmer...: Errandonnées #5 - 8

This week, it was all one errand per day; in the past I would did individual daily posts, but I'm going to lump them all together.

This post is a bit picture-heavy. You're welcome.

Monday on the way home from school, I realized I had just enough time to go renew my library card. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it was actually too warm to wear my earwarmers. Delightful!

I planned to cut though the park, only to find the cross path was bung full of ice. I had been lulled into a false sense of security by the fact that the main path was gloriously bare. when will I learn?

Tuesday, I was going to use my last You carried WHAT? errand, but decided to use it later in the week instead. Since I took the picture anyway, you get a bonus.
In the brown pannier: laptop, tests, labs, tea thermos. In the other pannier, a breadboard kit, more labs, patterns, pins, & shears. In the basket: my purse, cloth for Thurlows, Tofinos, Swoon cardi, 4 wool skeins, my lunch, and a travel mug of tea.

Pretty much par for the course, really.

Wednesday, the temperature rose to the dizzying height of +8°C. I abandoned my winter coat and winter boots and donned my cape (and fashion boots). While I needed my headband and double gloves in the morning they were unnecessary on the way home. I wore a skirt. This spring thing might actually happen after all.

We welcome back the advent of Lake QPC (which I'm blocking in this pic). The melting snow makes for great, big, salty puddles to ride through. This could have been dangerous in the bike lanes; there are some really deep holes which the water hid and I, naturally, managed to ride my bike over every. single. one. Also, I now need to clean the salt off my pretty boots.

Thursday, all that melted snow froze as March said "Psych!" and I had to put the winter coat back on. After work, I went to get some pies for Pi day. It's the first time that Pi day has been close to a school day, so I thought we should do something. Involving pie.

I got 8 pies.

The grocery store is a skant 650 m from the school, so I wasn't too worried about those sideway pies, but I tried to bike very gently as I went to drop them off. It did leave me with a crack in the top of the cherry pie and left some pumpkin detritus on the top of the box, but other than some crumbly crust, the pies arrived intact.

For my next trick, I went to Pie Squared, which is a cute idea and delicious pies. I wanted to get some gift certificates to give as prizes for pre-Pi day as well as dinner for the DC and me.

I bought two savoury pies and two smaller, sweet pies. I'd been there before, but I never noticed they sold tiny square tartlettes. They looked luscious, but I thought they definitely would not survive the bike journey home, so went for the enclosed pumpkin nut. They have an ingenious box for the savory pies, but the little pies had to lump it in a bag.

I put the food bag in my basket and, because I've been through this before, didn't really try to avoid the bumps and jostling on the way home. The sweet pies suffered the worst of it, with one of the pies crust completely separating.

As for the savoury pies, the nifty box is pretty good protection. The last time I carried these pies home, one of them was cracked right across the middle, but this time? No problem.

The pies (at both school and home) were a great success.

Today, Friday, we were back to cape weather, but when I went out after dark I put my winter coat back on. I went to meet the DC and G for drinks at Duggan's Brewery in Parkdale. I didn't think to take a picture of the bike I shared a ring with; it had clearly been out all winter, no doubt buried under piles of snow, finally emerging like a crocus. A really dirty crocus.
