Smirking my way through another week: MMM15 week 3

composite/
me-made-may'14

So... cardigans. I've now made four versions of the Swoon Patterns scarf-neck cardigan, and this week I managed to wear them all. Which is impressive considering one of them is for cold weather, two are for warmer weather, and one is decidedly evening-wear. I may need to take a wee break from that pattern for a while. But not from the cardigans. You can expect to see those a lot.

Also? Smirky resting face all the way.

Full disclosure: I had to recreate this photo Saturday morning because I forgot my camera on Monday. I'm just that dedicated. Or ridiculous. You decide. I'm wearing my Blueberry Sorbetto hack, a pair of unblogged (because I still have to work out sizing issues) Measure Twice Cut Once Mary knickers, and my bruised candy apple earrings. The earrings caught the notice of one of my students because they kept getting caught in my hair and they were distracting him. I'd like to make these RTW capri pants out of something other than polyester; they don't breathe. Linen, maybe?

Another pair of Mary knickers and the cream Swoon cardigan yet again. Luckily for you, we had tickets to the theeatah so I changed into my bronze Swoon cardi, my (unblogged) goldish block earrings, and my refashioned burgundy tee. The DC thought the cardigan was too glittery for the evening, but I don't often get a chance to break out the superglam (and besides, he wears plus-fours to the museum, so he's one to talk).

We went to see a version of Much Ado About Nothing set in Brampton, with Punjabi characters and surtitles. It was a lot of fun. Beatrice becomes Tara, niece of Mayor Ranjit of Brampton, Hero becomes his daughter Sita, Claudio becomes Darius, and Benedick becomes... Benedict. The uncle Antonio gets a somewhat expanded role as Auntie, who only speaks Hindi and devises the "let's pretend she's dead" plot. Dogberry becomes Newfie Dan Singh for hilarious reasons. The songs were translated into Hindi, and everything is surtitled (the English bits into Hindi, the Hindi into English, the Newfie slang into... well, I don't want to spoil it for you.) It suffers from the usual creepiness that comes from modern-day settings still having Don Pedro/Lord Tata woo Hero/Sita for Claudio/Darius (the Whedon version made me uncomfortable, too) and Darius publicly denouncing her on seriously slight evidence, and in this case it was a little distracting hearing "CFO Benedict" instead of Signor Benedick, but the bit at the end where they dance? It's a Bollywood Ado, so naturally they dance. Overall, I really liked it. It's playing until the end of the month, so get your tickets.

Are you getting bored of this cream Swoon cardigan? Tough. It was one of the best unplanned makes from last year and I wear the heck out of it. It was really cold at school, though, and this cardi is not really warm enough. I'm wearing it with my linen Anna top (which is a wee bit short, obviously) and unblogged bronze block chandeliers. I will get around to blogging the jewellery I've made in June, probably. I really think I should replace the neck facings with bias binding on that top.

The temperature went into nippy regions and I was tired of freezing at school, so I broke out the long blue Swoon cardigan to go over my Cake tee (which shortness was somewhat successfully hidden by a wide RTW belt (hidden by the sweater) -- I've cut out a waistband to make it longer (great, another UFO to add to the pile) -- and the Lekala spiral gore skirt.

Sorry for the headless wonder, but I had to take this shot quickly before it started raining again. I'm wearing my breton Bronte and cherry blossom earrings. This is another of my favourite pairings: breton top with tan bottom.

I cut the pieces for this to-be-blogged-in-June-cuz-that's-how-I-seem-to-roll blue Swoon cardigan in April and finally sewed it up in time for a Sewcialists/Sewist/Sewers' meetup (where I met up with Andie and Andrea and Bev). I've been needing a blue spring sweater for years, and this is perfect. So expect to see it a lot. I'm also wearing a new Cake Bonny tee (sans sailor collar), which I like but it's gaping horribly. As is, students could toss erasers into it; it was so bad when biking that to avoid showing off the goods to passers-by I had to throw my shoulders back and stick my chest out to comic-book levels, which is taking good posture a little too far. Anyway. It needs work. Is it a UFO if it's the most recent thing I've made? Nah. I won't tell if you don't.

The meetup was fun. I was planning on buying fabric for some planned projects, but decided as I was biking over that there's no point in trying to maintain a four-bin stash if you're going to ignore the fact that your bins are already completely full (and, to be honest, when you've got enough additional material to fill a fifth bin), so I was good and bought only needed notions (although that was a fun moment, standing in Neveren's for a good 10 minutes clutching white thread and desperately trying to remember what else it was that I needed. This is why I make lists, my friends.). We had some very good food at the Rivoli, and it was lovely to chat sewing with like-minded and intelligent people.

Home, part 1Home, part 2
At home/Mandarin for Aged P's b-day. "Home"

You get a two-fer today (to make up for last Sunday, perhaps?). In the first, I'm wearing my horizontal Belcarra, which I don't like wearing to school because the neckline really needs to be redone but so far I'm far to lazy to even contemplate adding it to the UFO pile, and my grey linen Thurlow shorts. And this time I really did go grocery shopping. Later, we went out to celebrate Aged P's birthday, so I changed into my silk Marfy blouse and yet-to-be-blogged white linen Gabriola. The Marfy blouse was supposed to be a UFO, but the collar was fine after wearing it to dinner, so I suspect my key lariat pulled it out of place in January. Which takes it out of the UFO pile. Hooray! The Gabriola was also a UFO, and I did the bits to finish it, but it turns out that the linen is a little too sheer in strong sunshine. I should put some kind of lining in, but I'm not sure where it should stop: mid-thigh? Knees? And won't it look awful? I may just relegate this skirt to cloudy-days only. You're also getting the cream Swoon again, despite the DC's protests, because the blue cardi would have been a bit much with the red top and the white skirt. And also because it would have been rubbish at keeping the rather chilly night breeze off my skin. I must say that hat makes the outfit look Edwardian; I should have worn my Astorias.

UFOs F'd

I'm calling it as two down. The red and white Marfy is not actually an UFO anymore, and I did the stuff that took the Gabriola out of UFO territory, and I'm undecided about whether it should go right back into it. The Bonny is still technically a WIP. So there. Progress on the UFO front is very slow, but it's progress.

Geeky stats:
Me-mades: 7/7; Refashioned: 1/7; Sewing: 17; Crochet: 0; Earrings: 4; UFOs f'd: 2/16
Monthly total: Me-mades: 16/17; Refashioned: 3/17 Sewing: 27; Crochet: 0; Earrings/Jewellery: 10; UFOs f'd: 4/18

    1. It's such a quick make. Do watch for whether the front and side pieces line up at the bottom, though.
