Eight Days a Week: MMM16 week 1

MMM16 week 1 composite

me-made-may'16

This year's MMM will be interesting because I'm not going into to work so I have no real reason to get out of my jammies other than to go outside and take pictures. Which, I'm hoping, will help get me out of my jammies. I've committed to wearing at least two me-made or refashioned items every day, with no more than one repeat per week, and make at least one item per week while finishing all my UFOs. This will be no problem, right? I'll be posting photos daily in the Flickr group and going into more detail on my weekly wrap-ups here. This week has eight days because for me, the week ends on Sunday. As always, I'm following Fat Mum Slim's photo prompts.

I've also been taking the opportunity to catch up, timey-wimey wise, on some old blog posts and I've linked to a bunch of them below. Really, my aim is to keep you from doing whatever it is you should be doing by taking you on a kind of wiki walk.

blue
Bluma Appel Theatre for One-Man Star Wars. "Blue"

I saw Charles Ross do his One-Man Star Wars (as well as his Lord of the Rings) a whole lot of years ago and I was very excited to see that it was back in Toronto. So funny. And for the kids: "exposition" means "blah blah blah."

It was pretty cold today, and I'm kind of glad because it means I could wear my finally-blogged Blue Spruce Dana. In keeping with the colour-theme, I'm also wearing my Lekala spiral gore jeans skirt and bruised candy-apple earrings. I am sad that I thought it would be too windy to wear my cape.*

routine
Comedy routine feeding treats to Lucy. "Routine"

I spent most of today in my blue plaid Tofinos** doing our taxes. I did have to get dressed and actually go outside to get groceries. It was less cold today, but still chilly enough to warrant my Saturn sweater over my not-yet-blogged red fleecy Bronte. I still love this sweater, although it pills beyond belief and I haven't sewn the button-hole-band ribbon on yet because the DC and I merged our sewing stuff and now I can't find it. Tidying up never pays.

You get a reprieve from a really boring shot of me shopping because we have adorable pictures of a cat. Lucy has been climbing on my shoulders for years but the new thing now is that she stays. We've been encouraging this behaviour by feeding her treats, which is always hilarious because she's not a graceful kitteh. It's become a near-daily routine***. Lucy always makes at least one appearance in MMM; we're getting it out of the way early this year.

N is for...
The Lambton CPR Bridge on the Humber River. "N is for..."

N is for New. Somewhat. I had to take my bike in to Hoopdriver for its annual servicing; they've since moved all the way to Annette and Jane so I figured I'd make a day of it and hang out in Humber Park. There's a really lovely spot where the footbridge crosses the river next to the Lambton CPR Bridge. The new thing in this outfit is a pink paisley Belcarra. And the shoes, although I didn't make them. I was hoping to be wearing a new pair of Jalie jeans, but alas these are still the too-blue, too-thin, too-unblogged ones from last summer. I should have made new earrings for this, too. Damn. That's the problem with not planning ahead. I'm also wearing my burgundy Jenna cardigan and Provençal bike earrings.

ball
That's no moon... that's a... well, it's a cake pop. "Ball"

Another day spent mostly in my jammies, but I had to go out to get (more) groceries. I'm wearing my red Bronte, again, because it's comfy and cosy and I planned to take blog photos but then didn't. I'm also wearing a pair of Mary knickers, which will be blogged once I work out all the fitting issues.

What I really want for May the fourth is a white button-up blouse with R2D2-like embroidery — subtle but obvious to those in the know.

button
Completely overdressed to get cat food. Thanks, prompt. "Button"

I should have gone to get cat food yesterday, but was far too lazy. (This is pretty much the caption to all my days this year. It's awesome.) However, we — or rather, Lucy — really needs litter and kibble, so out I went again today. Because of the prompt, I'm wearing my blue Mathilde -- not my immediate choice for errand-running. I would have dressed it down with jeans, but I want to save them for when it's supposed to get colder this weekend. Which is why I need to get my butt in gear and make another pair soon. Like, yesterday. Anyway, back to the Mathilde. I need to change the hem treatment; it's currently turn and turn and stitch but the fabric is really too thick for that. I'm going to use to bias binding instead. Instead of jeans, I'm wearing my tan denim Lekala spiral gore skirt. I've worn this skirt a tonne so far this year, but the waist is still too huge. I have to take it in about an inch (so if you're keeping track, that's two UFOs in one outfit).

May 6

air
Wallace Emerson Community Centre. "Air"

The weather is getting glorious. I didn't even have to take a jacket today! I'm wearing my breton Renfrew, which fits weird in the armscye but I still reach for it all the time. I'm also wearing yesterday's tan denim Lekala skirt. It's still too big in the waist, and is demonstrating Newton's first law very nicely in that second picture. I'm going to do my best to deal with this skirt this weekend.

This means a lot to me
Book message. "This means a lot to me"

I lost the battle of the sloth today. I'm wearing my ridiculously faded not-yet-blogged blue plaid Tofinos — I only made them last July and it's obnoxious how much they've faded since then — and my ridiculously pilly long blue Swoon cardigan, which I'm hoping I can return to some semblance of niceness before the school year.

My Sunday
Pan Am trail along Eglinton on the way to Aged P's. "My Sunday"

I thought I would surprise Aged P by taking her some flowers so she would see them when she arrived home from Florida later this evening. Except she surprised me by already being home. Which was good because I could help her unpack her van a bit. Anyway, I'm glad I saved the Jalie jeans for today because not only was it rather chilly, but shortly after this picture was taken I had to throw on my baseball cap and raincoat because the heavens opened and the rains poured down for about 15 minutes — I have Sewaholic's Cypress cape pattern and I might need to push that plan up because my raincoat is falling apart and is not great for biking. I'm also wearing my burgundy Jenna and my Cake tee, which is relegated to layering because despite lengthening it last July, there are residual holes at the waist, some awkward discolourations, and it has shrunk a wee bit.

New items

Part of my pledge is to sew one new item each week. This week I sewed my pink paisley Belcarra. Off to a good start!

UFOs F'd

Again, I'm keeping track of the UFOs I finished here to keep me on track. As of posting I have about 17 items I can think of off the top of my head, but that number keeps growing. Technically, I haven't finished any, but the week is not over and I plan to take in the tan denim Lekala and fix the hems of my blue Mathilde and my blueberry Sorbetto hack after dinner, so I'm calling it: 3 down, 14 to go.

Similarly, I have a bunch of UFBP (un-finished blog posts) that I've been catching up on. I won't list the number because it's rather embarrassing, but this week I've finished 7.

Geeky stats:
Me-mades: 8/8; Refashioned: 0/8 Sewing: 11; Crochet: 2; Jewellery/Other: 1; UFOs: 3/17

*I was smart enough to wear one of several pairs of merino wool tights I bought earlier this year. They are glorious.

**I've decided I'm not counting the pyjamas for repeats unless I use them for a photo. Oh, and I'll blog these as soon as I finish the DC's pair.

***She's slightly more adorable on the DC's broad shoulders because she draps herself around the back of his neck, whereas I get the rich lady stole effect.
