Pretty in pink paisley

The internet has spoken, and we have chosen button #2 for the Mathilde. So now I have no real excuse for not pushing on with that top. In the meantime, a super-quick sew:
pink paisley Belcarra

So, I had some fabric leftover from my maxi Anna from last summer. It was just enough to squeeze out a Sewaholic Belcarra without having to sew scrap pieces together.

It's view A again. This is my sixth Belcarra, so I don't have much to say about the construction, except that I tried to pre-empt cutting off the too-long hem by shortening it by two inches before cutting it out. Unfortunately I seem to have mismeasured the back piece because it was a bit too long. Now I have a bit of a high-low thing going on.

Not that you will be able to tell, because I plan to always wear this top tucked.

I did goof a bit with the neck binding: despite my care in laying out the pattern, I wound up cutting it too long. No problem, right? Just trim it to the length of the pattern piece. Except that when I started sewing it in, it wound up being too short. Obviously, it wasn't too long after all and I'm having some kind of brain glitch. Since I didn't want to unpick anything, I made a box pleat in the centre front. The print is so busy you can't really tell, and I can't even get a good shot of it close up.

Ahem. It's not a mistake; it's a design feature.

This top is a nice addition to the casual/business mix of clothes I've got going on. I'm not huge on pink, but this print is sophisticated enough for me to not wince when I wear it. I still like the Belcarra pattern, but I wish it layered better under cardigans – the shoulders tend to get pushed awkwardly inward. I wonder if adding bra keepers would help with that situation?

Hey, this post has actually been blogged in real time! The date is not a lie! But I've been catching up timey-wimey on some posts where the date is a lie (like the Ersatz tiki Oona maxi Anna) in time for the week-end round up. You can see them there.
